It is with great sadness that we report the passing of the President and founder of the Litzenberger-Litzenberg Association, Homer "Larry" Litzenberg. Below are his obituary, an opportunity to donate to a memorial fund, and a link to a memorial guestbook where we welcome your memories and thoughts. We will be adding photographs and the text of his biography from his Litzenberger and Litzenberg book within the next day or two.

Lt. Col. Homer Laurence Litzenberg III (USMC Ret.)
1931-2009

Homer L. “Larry” Litzenberg III, 78, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at the VA Hospital in Livermore, California.  He was the husband of the late Beatrice “Boots” (Chappelle) Litzenberg, who died in 1992.  Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, he was the son of the late Lt. Gen. Homer L. Litzenberg Jr. (USMC Ret.) and Bessie (Leech) Litzenberg.  A career Marine, he retired in 1978 after 26 years of active duty with service in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and as Naval Attache in Yugoslavia.  After retirement he earned a Master's Degree and worked in Iran and Nigeria.  After his beloved wife's death, he moved to Whitehall, Pennsylvania to complete his book Litzenberger and Litzenberg: Origins of the Names and the Families (see below).  He organized many family reunions, including two in Germany and France.  In 2002 he moved to California to be near his daughter, Laurie Isdell, and her husband Daniel, of San Jose, California.  He is also survived by his sister, Betty Lee Boston of Murray, Kentucky.  He was an outstanding officer, a wonderful and loving husband and father, and a caring friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 20, in Keller's Church Cemetery (at St. Matthews Lutheran Church), 3668 Ridge Road, Perkasie, PA.  Arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Bethlehem PA.
